Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines, restoring volume and fullness in the face or lips.
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent.
As our facial skin stretches as the years pass, this adds to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure and lifestyle.
Dermal fillers can be used to:
- Plump and increase volumen in thin lips
- Enhance shallow contours
- Soften facial creases and wrinkles
- Improve the appearance of recessed scars
- Help eliminate bags under the eyes
Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as an added value part of facial rejuvenation surgery.
You may be a good candidate for dermal fillers if you are physically healthy, don’t smoke, and also have realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance.
For some patients, surgery such as a facelift, brow lift, or eye lift may be the best approach. Soft tissue fillers and non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results like surgery but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate.
The dermal fillers procedure includes the following steps:
- Step 1 – Facial Assessment & Mapping
Our specialist will evaluate your facial appearance and skin tone. He’ll ask you which areas of your face you want to be treat. A special pencil may be used to mark the areas where treatment will be given.
- Step 2 – Cleansing & Anesthetizing
The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent before the dermal filler is applied.
Sensitivity at the injection site may be lessened by the use of a very cold instrument to chill the skin. Subsequently, anesthetic ointment or ice may be used.
However, the injections are usually easily tolerated by most people.
- Step 3 – Application of Dermal Fillers
This usually takes only a few moments per site with a small injection. The process of injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result is fast and easy. Additional filler is also added as needed.
Regarding time, the whole process may be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.
- Step 4 – Clean up & Recovery
Finally, once the results are deemed satisfactory, any markings are cleaned off.
You may be offered an ice pack to reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. However, and although the area may feel a bit tender for a day or two, medication si rarely required.
Recovery Time
Dermal fillers treatment requires no recovery time and results are immediate. Therefore, you can resume your normal activities the same day. However, your initial appearance may include a small amount of swelling or temporary redness. This is normal and disappears very quickly.
