A chiropractor is a primary care professional for spinal health and well-being. Chiropractors attend graduate-level health colleges to treat disorders of the bones, nerves, muscles, and ligaments.
Chiropractic care is centered around spinal manipulation. However, practitioners also study how the spine and its structures are related to the body’s function.
Chiropractic therapy is the most commonly used type of treatment for back pain. Interestingly, an estimated 74 percent of Americans with pain in this area have used chiropractic care at some point in their treatment.
The science supporting chiropractic treatment
It is important to know that chiropractic care is drug-free and non-invasive. It may treat some musculoskeletal problems. This form of alternative medicine can benefit everyone and it is generally considered safe for most people.
A 2018 review included 17 years of studies involving spinal manipulation and mobilization, which is a more passive form of manipulation.
The studies investigated the effects of these treatments on chronic lower back pain, and the authors concluded that visiting a chiropractor was a “viable” option for pain management.
Who could benefit?
Several myths surround this question. One myth is that chiropractors only treat back pain. In fact, chiropractic care can also help to heal pain in the foot, elbow, shoulder, and neck.
While chiropractors are widely known for treating back and neck pain, they often also treat bone and soft tissue conditions.
Dr Aron Stumvoll is US trained and certified. At your first appointment, he will check all areas of your neck and back. If you have other pains, it is important let him know. In that case, he can see if it is related to anything in the spine and back area. He may also order x-rays for a more in-depth study.

My 82 year father needs to see a pain management doctor as he has been in excruciating pain for the past several months. He was recently diagnosed with herniated disks (4&5) along with sciatica which makes it very hard for him to walk/sit/stand as his left knee painfully locks when trying to do so. He lives in Pimentel (Chiclayo) and I would like to know if you could recommend a specialist that could possibly see him over there.
I would appreciate your reply at your earliest convenience.
Thank you,
M. Young
