Back pain is a complaint that many of us have and is a term that stems from what a chiropractor calls a ‘vertebral subluxation’. This means there is a nerve interference that reduces the flow of information and energy that runs inside your spine from your brain to your muscles, causing contractures, back pain, and weakness.
This effects muscles, tissues, and discs.
Causes of back pain
- Poor posture or spinal imbalances or weight, scoliosis, one leg being longer than the other leg.
- Aging and degeneration of the vertebrae are more common as you get older and can start between 30 and 40 years old.
- Back pain is more common in those who take little or no exercise.
- Gaining weight: Being overweight overloads the back making it wear down quicker, causing discomfort.
- Some types of work can also affect our backs: lifting or pushing weights, sitting all day long, repetitive movements.
- Trauma, accidents, and falls are another reason that back pain may be evident.
- Chiropractic treatments and adjustments help solve these problems.
NECK PAIN
Neck pain can be caused by many things and also accompanied by headaches, dizziness, or vertigo.
Neck pain can also produce discomfort in the shoulder and is very common in people who are sitting all day. Muscle tensions accumulate and eventually affect the structure and the relationship between the vertebrae of the spine.
These conditions often go uncorrected and contribute toward degeneration (osteoarthritis) of the vertebrae. However, it is easy and important to correct. The problem is that people wait too long to seek a definitive solution.
Massage can be helpful but it alone does not correct distortion patterns associated with this problem. Chiropractic treatments seek to provide a definitive solution through a period of adjustments and quick, simple treatments.
HEADACHES & MIGRAINES
Chiropractor adjustments reduce or eliminate irritation at the cervical spinal nerves, improving the communication and functionality of the nervous system. This helps control the muscles of the cranial basilar artery to balance changes which cause migraines.
Migraine is characterized by attacks of severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, and photophobia which affects between 12% and 16% of the general population; for unknown reasons, it occurs more frequently in women.
If you are a person that suffers from migraines, then visiting chiropractic treatments are needed. This includes frequent adjustments and alignments that help minimalize or stop migraines from occurring.
HERNIA
A herniated disc occurs when the liquid center of the disc protrudes outward, breaking the outer ring of the fibers, leaving the spinal canal. That causes a nerve root to be compressed and in turn, causes symptoms such as sciatica. This fluid from the nucleus pulposus can cause inflammation and swelling of the surrounding tissues that can, in turn, cause a greater compression of the nerve root in the closed space of the spinal canal.
A protrusion is the beginning of a hernia and must be addressed quickly and with clarity.
A large percentage of patients with herniated disk who took treatment with our chiropractor and later repeated the MRI scan the following year, see that their hernias have improved or disappeared altogether, thus avoiding having to undergo surgery.
